I remember the flash. It was like staring at an arc from a plasma torch or welder. I knew the bolt hit close, and I was thankful I was driving in a car for the insulation of the tires, but without clear vision, I was genuinely guessing where I was on the road for a few moments. I was about to start counting to see how far away the lighting was, and before I could get out a tenth of a second, there was a tremendous crack of the lightning bolt.
What was remarkable to me was just a few miles before, I was at a stoplight and admiring how the sun was poking through the clouds in the middle of a storm. It was a stunning efx that I probably could only get using volumetric lighting and smoke in a computer graphics program.
sadly I didn’t have my camera with me.
But I must confess, I have to wonder what is going on. Never have I been that close to a lightning strike and the sight, sound, and smell.
today I was driving through another storm, and I watched a small tornado pass in front of me.
