It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the trajectory of where the initial idea of the internet is going. Once space where people from all over the planet could go and trade ideas and thoughts, to perhaps break down the barriers of hatred, prejudice, racism, and all the other differences, has gone the way of the news of old. A few big players are controlling the data and playing with the various nation states for the idea of what message gets fed to a particular part of the world. Call it digital firewalls.
Yesterday was the remembrance of the 75th anniversary of D day. I watched and listened to the stories from both sides of the invasion. There were no politicians or world leaders speaking. Just the stories of the people who actually had to live through it. My theory to reduce conflict and war on the planet is to have the leader's families all fight in the front lines. I think it might act as a deterrent for non-psychopaths to try to find a solution before destroying things.
When I was discussing this with my folks, my dad remembered that school was let out, and all the kids were told to go to church to pray. I did a double take, as that sounded like something out of a fairy tale. “you mean they told the kids to leave school and go to church to pray?”
I had heard that general Eisenhower or president Truman had asked for prayer, but never knew if that was real.
But then I thought about the reality of the men from both sides on the various beachheads who did the fighting. I am not sure if it wasn’t much different than pickets charge or any of the other glorified battles in history were in human terms, it was pretty much an onslaught and destruction of so many human lives, few of which made any policy or decisions of the leadership of their country.
I still hear the one older man explaining the thing he never forgets is how the ocean turned red.
will humanity ever learn, or are we heading back to a world of nation-states, borders, and the prelude to another world war because the youth today has forgotten the reality of what happened and has never had to live it?
Time will tell. What I can say is that I am saddened that the internet has become what it has. While I thank Google and the various search engines for the ability to find information. I look at the media and shake my head in where the world of news is and has been going for some time. About all that is being democratized is fame. It is easy to spot the players. They have 14,000 followers and only get 10 likes on a post.
The robots are coming. Wait they are already here.
