Today marks the celebration of the Easter holiday with the western churches. If you happen to be in the west and are with an eastern church, well, this year merely is Palm Sunday. As a kid that asked, “why?” all the time and never really got too many straight answers until talking to the old monks after I was 40, God makes perfect sense. The man-made stuff of religion seems to be in place for reasons few can answer. The only honest ones I got were from the old man in the desert, “ignorance, fear, control, or they just repeat what they don’t really know.”
Speaking of another old man. I took my dad on a side trip right after church as I had to get somethings done in another state. I didn’t know if he could handle it, but I was mistaken and just sat there watching another page in aging. I got to listen to his childlike heart literally describing all the fantastic beauty he saw with nature, and despite his age, he sounded like a little child describing how beautiful it was to him.
I think he needed that trip to get away from the world where he tends to be more habitual and living in a box. I am not sure that as you age, you simply don’t want to change. Or you just are older and tired and don’t care about all the things one sweated when younger.
While the church service was helpful, a different variant of it was listening to my dad seeming to talk to god and complimenting him on his creation. The clouds, trees, colors, and beauty of nature.
To those celebrating Easter today. Christ is risen. You can tell me that in a week if you want.
I am just tired of the nonsense of power, control, and man-made traditions and rules obstructing the deeper meaning of Jesus and Christianity.
