It is an interesting morning of work as I get to focus beyond the norm on what we are working and building with that convergence of technology meeting what are the needs of human beings as we move forward. My guess is we are heading into a space where people will be more stressed out and unhappy until they learn to take the time to help themselves. It is a bit like the term in medicine where I see people medicating the symptoms and not really looking that the system has seemed to find it more profitable to ignore applying medication to the root issue. It still astounds me that half of the cost medicine is spent in one country that is only 5 % of the globe’s population.
I don’t profess to have cures for these root issues; instead, we have some excellent tools that might make it a better pathway for others to allow and bring change into their lives. There is one element that I never believed should be taken from someone. That thing is the beauty of choice. Growing up inside the united states it is a really fantastic gift we have that I fear we have abused a bit as a society. When selfishness overtakes the societal good, you will end up with the current landscape you have today when you walk across the country. It isn’t great, it isn’t bad, yet, you can see lots of cracks in the pavement that could open up into chasms if we don’t bring a bit of common sense back into our reality.
The exciting work is in our controlled environment spaces, of which I think we have found an area that will do a lot of things for our geek, nerd, maker side – as well as allow for a sort of base that we can use in one country and have the flexibility to move other smaller ones around the planet. The issue today isn’t so much in the idea of making the products that work for we, it is having to deal with a long list of regulations with tolerances that are a bit different depending on where you are on the planet. That is why I think we keep a small group together, even though the world says scale, scale, scale!
I get confused when market capitalization became the bellwether for a company versus actual profitability. I still remember the first internet rush in the 90s and not a whole lot has changed today when I see what and how the industry is working. I looked at the infamous “burn rate” in those days with incredulous disbelief. “you have to be kidding me, you are bragging how much money you are burning through with no end in sight as to when you might make a penny of profit?”
The day we made industries out of people trading paper and not really having to make anything. It probably was the day the door to full-blown greed was allowed into the marketplace. I look at a lot of the funds today and think to the day there was more fun than actual companies and stocks on the market. Sure, it is nice to make money doing nothing, but how will that all work out in the long term? Perhaps this is something I don’t’ think many in positions of power in the united states want the people to really know or understand?
Enough of that which I can’t control. What I have to test is an interesting yeast and then another idea with mushrooms that we have. I really don’t know what the effect of it will be, but I am curious as to the flavor and taste profiles for the product. The other things…just machines for plants, fungus’s, curing meats, and then the group to see about helping people. I have to confess when we lit up the monitors for that studio control room last week that I just sat there in a stupor as I forgot just how amazing, great audio is. When I see the designs from people trying to come up with good things, I usually shake my head. Not because the idea and concepts aren’t interesting, but instead I wonder if people understand the physical world and how the materials work versus the ideas inside the fantasy in their heads?
Life got a lot simpler, perhaps not as cool or hip when I dropped the entertainment manipulation part of my work in my life. How do I describe it? There is a sense of deeper meaning in work these days. all i know is i would like people to continue to have a choice rather than be manipulated without having one.
