I am helping a friend build out a new studio control room. We take audio, sound, and noise for granted. I didn’t notice how much noise was in the typical home until I was in a room with a few kids and parents and they were all playing their small images in their cell phones with the audio on high. When combined with normal conversation, I realized just how bad most of the world lives with regards to sound and audio. It seems like people and humanity are living in an ever-increasing world of noise versus beautiful sound. Perhaps that is why I love going out into nature, away from any man-made noise, or I love the complexity of building sound rooms or control rooms for studios
I am drained, a bit tired, I have to chuckle in that building out every wall and surface to tune it to different frequencies, deflect, or isolate for a studio control room, the one thing holding us up is awaiting the delivery of a simple acoustic panel drop ceiling. Behind it we have 8 ceiling mounted bass traps, and in front of it will be an acoustic cloud with a sexy butterfly shaped diffuser. One day I will get the photos to show you all of it. I keep forgetting many people just are not aware of what a quiet room sounds like. I also forget that many people are not comfortable being alone with themselves. You can hear this when you listen to what people do when they are alone.
Some need a tv running, others have music. It is a strange thing I have learned with human behavior. Silence seems to make many people edgy. I have a theory of the reason why, in that, the silence will have people slow down and be forced to look inside themselves. You don’t need to be in an anechoic chamber to experience this. To be in and listen within the well-designed room that absorbs most noise. Now that I think about it, sensory deprivation tanks are somewhat unusual in getting one to go beyond their known human senses. It was the path I was on before sitting alone out in a dessert and listening for the first time in my life. I used to study and think all sorts of technologies could solve man’s problems.
I learned they are great tools and can help.
What I don’t understand is that most of man’s problems come from within himself. I keep wondering why more time isn’t spent in changing the behaviors that have caused so much pain to humanity from the behavior of man?
too deep of a question for today. have a great one!
