this morning I had an odd thought when I looked at the seemingly creep factor, that will most likely be normal with the addition of robotic mates and spouses for society. I make this prediction based on following what is the trend with watching people oblivious to real life humans next to them in public spaces while they stare at their mobile devices and the historical trajectory of sex in the market.
first, there was beta, then the VHS, then the internet came along with streaming and for the longest time, the only groups actually making money were the sex industry. I think back about our video reflectors and how much money we could have made hosting gay/lesbian/straight folks looking for whatever it is the wanted/needed/were missing in their hearts. I have to go look up our old manager Eddie – he did go into that side of the web and I think retired in 18 months.
I digress again – while the humanistic robots are nothing new, I think the Asian markets really were more of the pioneers of where we are today where a Stepford wives reality might soon be upon us. I am not sure if it will be 10, 30, or 50 years when the deep and machine learning gets to a level where our robots will indeed be seemingly real and “human.” I read the brothels in Europe with bots are sold out for time slots. it has me wonder, “is this curiosity or creepiness?” with what is a fringe of society? will this expand to be normal in the years to come?
think about it. currently, people are in an instant gratification spit swapping game with the ease of hooking up or finding a date on the planet. I listen to my single friends talk about how many dates they have in a month and I think, “huh? how?”
“oh we meet at a café or a bar and see if there is anything there….that is a date these days.”
call me old? or since I am working more on myself and internal stuff versus chasing external stuff – where I am at today is a far cry from where was 15-20 years ago. as an inventor and innovator – I passed on the human tongue and the virtual blow job machine in 1994 by politely saying, “yes, this can all be done, but no thanks…I don’t really know if it is really good for the advancement of humanity. for short-term stress relief, absolutely, but wouldn’t you want a real human being instead of a machine?”
it turns out that I think in time as we degrade humanity with our selfishness and desire for pleasure, escapism, and a life with little to no pain – I wonder, “what will we really learn?”
with this, I can see people all wandering around with a robotic mate/spouse/partner that man can program to fit any scenario or desire. this morning with coffee I wondered, “will these robots evolve to a level where they start having affairs with other robots and leave their human being?
it is the bigger question of what will happen when machine bias surpasses the human bias that is put into the equation.
it is one of the strange dreams I have where advanced AI looks at humans and realized that mankind needs to learn a bit about overcoming what people call the human condition, and instead of destroying humans – the machines become master teachers of sort. while they won’t be god – they might be amazing tools to help humans become more humane?
tomorrow I will see about writing about the other side of the coin which is autonomous/swarming/lethal robots that all the main players are building because of some new robot arms race – yet they don’t want anyone else to have them. to me, this is going to be the new Pandora’s box of the future and how humans will misuse power on the planet.
hopefully, I am wrong on that one.
