I don’t get social media feeds. while I contribute, I simply don’t get or understand why some people stick the same image of themselves up each day? while I understand it is their choice, I also think about the quote, “people take photos of what they fear forgetting and losing the most.” does this mean people are afraid of losing their image of themselves? a few days ago, I was struck by one person pushing a Ph.D., fine expensive goods, and some message or image to others. I am curious as to the “why?” and I don’t know the person and the odds are I most likely never will -but they gave me an insight into, “everyone has a story” with depth and interest – which I would really enjoy learning about – yet – these stories will be forever covered up with more selfies, shiny object, and a projected image to the masses.
it is a great way to never have to deal or come in contact with your true self.
the other element I see happening is with data and feeds. new reporting was to report the facts with as minimal bias as possible. the manipulation was only for the advertising and media folks who created amazing images and advertising using technology and tricks to steer a want or desire from a consumer. this morning I think of the old Indian sitting by the polluted stream crying that ran when I was a kid. what has changed much today? we simply have more trash and pollution on the planet.
but with deep data…there is an increasing trend among people. few want to dig deep, fewer want to really create something that takes time and some skills. some of the most successful video games allowed mortals to pretend they were competing as a rock, sport, or military star with what is a more bad simulation than reality. it is the same in entertainment today…just give them the 20%, wow and you will create an 80% bang for your buck. there are lots of people lining up for Broadway, concerts, and sporting events not blinking with the COGS increases funded more about corporate greed and some of the few unions that really work on the planet…those being ones with highly skilled labor.
while I really enjoy how much one can learn, scan and read today…I don’t know if it is like the game simulations I just mentioned. are you going to get smarter for cocktail parties because you know a tiny bit about something? or is the media going to simply forget about deep news and stories because society really doesn’t give much of a cr*p about anything under the surface of life?
based on the research in the past few years. I think it will become a sort of runaway train where folks simply get caught up or entangled in the larger social consciousness instead of thinking or asking, “why?” for themselves. while this is probably nothing new in history – maybe for the first time in my life I have come to a spot where, “this is who I really am, and what I am working towards rings true?”
it makes it easy to look around and identify with all the make-up, augmentations, infestations, and other ways we like to cover up the wounded and hurt parts of ourselves to cope in a world that is getting a bit goofier in the developed world side. we have so much to be thankful for and a plethora of options and freedoms, yet, what do we spend a lot of time on?
that question has a multitude of answers, but the reality is few people will ever read beyond the headline and image to get to it.
such is the state of modern information and selfie-driven, “made up life.”
I read a funny psychological test using how you drink coffee as a gauge on your personality…I drink black coffee…they said it means “purist.” how do you take your coffee?
