good morning. guten morgan, guete morgan, ohayogoziamas, ahn-ya-ha-sayo, zaoshang hao, bonjour, beunos dias…I am sitting here with a cup of fresh coffee staring at a stack of sketchbooks from the last few months and taking a moment before I go build more stuff. I think we have solved the mystery of mom, ordering, and changed design as at 10 am this morning, all the other parts of the “original” design will be here. by tonight…if all goes right…voila…we tile the walls tomorrow and mom can shower in her new place.
if nothing, I do have the first episode of a pilot show idea that has come out of aging parents. wouldn’t that idea be funny if that got picked up and fund a few villages of hungry kids?
perhaps it is just me and the way I am wired, there is a perfect balance between mind and body that would happen each day. it is like today, my brainstorm & prayer/meditation happened early, instead of working at 4 am on the bathroom, I have to wait for my parents to wake and then watch a routine of habit unfold and THEN I can get to work before the neighbor comes buy with his pex pro tools. what is interesting is that all my tools are not here – so I am having to build with whatever I can find. either I am getting better at this, or I didn’t need any complicated tools -but that has been ok so far. my only complaint is the quality of the tools makes a little more work than what I am used to
that is what I can write about – tools and computers – any object that becomes a sort of an extension of you if you use it enough. it is something I don’t understand in Switzerland, the company buys the tools for the workers, here in the states – more people own more tools. the cost of them is also quite small in relation to swiss COG . to maintain the idyllic beauty and quality of life like you have in Swiss – is not inexpensive, particularly when people are paid a living wage. what I think the swiss forget is how tiny they are, how unique they are with neutrality, and the reality of things not discussed with where the wealth of the country kickstarted into the economic powerhouse it is today. Switzerland, Singapore, Costa Rica – all tiny spaces with great economic safety that is protected by the large countries wealthy people.
I guess mom is up, it is 7:32 am and she is running a vacuum.
oh man, the notes I have for this show are hilarious, yet, I hope I don’t cross over lines with amplifying character development…it reminds me of a will Rogers quote that went something like, “people think I am funny and a great humorist. truth is, I just talk to the politicians and write what people say and people think it is funny.”
while my love of the family is unconditional, it doesn’t mean it’s quirks and idiosyncrasies are not hilarious. while we all think these behaviors are unique, when I had to fix the DNA test kit mistake (that could be another episode of what really happened with dad) the woman on the other end of customer support was like, “not a problem…this happens all the time with the parents!”)
if all goes well at 10 am I go pick up the rest of the parts – odd, in that there was a 6 week wait for the other stuff, but now I get it in less than 24 hours (I guess they are sick of mom and me?) and then mister p will be here with his spiffy van of plumbing implements mechanical coolness. I have used pex pro for a while, and I am not a plumber, but my god that is so nice, do you know there is a sexy crimping gizmo you don’t have to solder things anymore? this is the stuff that makes me go, “that is cool!”
that is why I need that mobile lab…also I have to go and switch to more mass market 3d modeling software – it was so odd when I started that I was using form-z to make products (94?) and what I learned today is all the maker spaces use things like fusion, rhino and stuff we simply bypassed. I would love to get a seat of pro-e or inventor…but I just don’t have the time to do that justice…
…let me look at that. It is truly amazing what you can do with a computer, some time and a few tools these days.
heck, when you see this bathroom, I don’t know what it would have cost to have someone come in and do it, but I cringe at thinking about it, or would they really have cared an not noticed the massive design flaw on Saturday and simply stuck what mom had in the wall and said, “well, that is what you gave us…we just install like mindless dorks and refrain from asking questions.”
if I hear give the client only what they want one more time, I will puke. it is like form and function – you give the client what they want and need. it is difficult to consistently get both perfect, but that doesn’t mean you don’t try. I think that is part of the problem in the united states. we have short termed everything for instant gratification and people don’t realize we are diluting quality.
funny…we are diluting things and the public perception is that it is distillation. go figure
it is a bit like tools and tuning them to the person. more so with me with computers and presets. I am fine lending them out, I just ask, “don’t adjust the presets I have, thanks.”
do you know how many times the tool or computer comes back all screwed up? I guess it is like playing football. perhaps the average person has no idea how many repetitions, hours, sessions, and years of working on technique go into getting to a high level? I don’t really know…what I do know is when you have all the tools organized and tuned – you can create a lot of things really fast – and do it well.
