what appears to be success and power that come with the positions and perks of our leaders to many – isn’t all cut and dry. what many fail to see is how inhumane much of the behavior is as various groups wrestle and seek control for more power. while everyone might great each other and smile to each other’s faces, I have seen grown men fighting for money and if it was legal, It would have been a competition to see who could have offed the other first. when you have to live your life with a backup for an instant replay – I think you have come to a place where you really need to evaluate your life.
perhaps the current and probably most meaningless level of creep I see has come from the white house and the event of several revolving door people, but one, who came from a background where self-promotion was always more important than doing what the team wanted – has revealed she taped all of her firings. in some respects, and I am not in the woman’s or the white house’s state of mind to judge the real motives of each – but it sure is coming across as pretty sleazy.
when you expand the current model of leadership and the personalities we have running many organizations – that being – we are in a period where balance and common sense exist even less, while the imbalance allows a few great strengths of a few to have all of their behavior flaws of many ignored. this appears where we are today inside the USA, and when you peel off the veneer of the “image” and “brands” – I would wager there is a whole lot of issues and rotting inside.
I remember my photojournalist friend commenting when president Clinton said on camera, “I did not have sexual relations with..” he said, “the president basically just said it is ok for and gave a license for people to lie.” have you ever told a lie? got caught in one? did you learn to ask, “why on earth did I tell the lie?”
we are all human and I do get the path of walking out life on this planet. I still say I was the doubting Thomas, the prodigal son that it took a Damascus road experience to get my eyes opened later in life.
The path I was working and living in a world that seems to have just gotten worse and where the insane behavior of money and power has grown exponentially, and I fear the simple behavior of humans acting decently to each other has and is eroding at a rate inverse to how fast our national debt is growing.
I am ok with the reality that business and life is not a bed of roses and seems to be complicated with the various interests of humans, personalities, and beliefs. what I am not ok with is when the pride, greed, ego, and lust for power and the perks of it – separate those making the rules with the people they want to force to live by them.
there is a quote, “with great power comes great responsibility.” as a kid and even a young man, I really didn’t quite understand that. now that I have done a full circle in seeming to experience life and living around the planet – what I do know and see is behaviors that I know are not good for the long term of people, a brand, or the country for that matter - and they are going full speed ahead with no sign of slowing down except that the train will either derail or smash into the next station at full speed.
while I do understand the need for instant replay, and it is really nice to have the tape and movie of “what really happened” as it reminds me of all the film we had to watch just playing American football. you watched games and practices, broke everything down -I remember coach Sara did one play I believe 100 plus times in one sitting…step, by minute step…in painstaking coaching glory (I will have to find wags and ask him the number, as he counted it…I was just glazed over wondering, “what is his point?”)
the point of this is, films don’t lie. you could not say, “I didn’t do that” or “wasn’t me.” you sit there and watch yourself on a play. this is what you did. some were good, some bad, some you made mistakes that seemed silly, others you did things you didn’t realize you could do. but you evaluated it all to make yourself better -or to memorize and learn about your opponent and prepare yourself to react and play better.
it wasn’t about proving and editing a message to say, “look what they did!” or “Woah is me!” or blackmailing or using the information to destroy or hurt others. it isn’t about having all the information to spend a small fortune in lawyer and settlements every time someone feels they are wronged, misaligned, or persecuted and then run to the press and get a book deal or movie deal for behavior that was wrong in the first place.
“so let me get this straight, trying to behave and do the right thing gets me nothing, but if I screw up and get you some titillating news…I can get fired, become a celebrity, and make a small fortune?”
insert Hollywood game show announcer voice, “THAT’S right! if you play ball with celebrity life – the less you actually do – the more famous you become!”
anyone else looking at all this and thinking, “hmm…this is simply a sad state of the united states?”
ADDITIONAL DRIBBLE - one day I might meet up with another linebacker I played with in college. he was pretty much a lunatic as well. today is he a high ranking judge. my question to him is, “how do you really know and are being fair in a trial?” to me, that seems like a very difficult job to do well as a human being and trying to understand the person (human beings) and balance that with an ethic that goes beyond the letter of the law. but that is a question I always wondered about, particularly when you go into a spiritual dimension and put every thought, word, idea, and deed inside your mind and heart into the mix.
maybe that is why I need god? if I didn’t have a god, I probably would be right back where I was and thinking living one’s life in a surveillance state is normal and the behavior I see on the newswires with leaders is perfectly, “ok!”
It is really odd when you actually knew a guy that was given a presidential pardon for the service to his country. the irony of black and white, right and wrong and all the shades of grey in between.
when will humanity learn? will we learn before it is too late? we have only ourselves to blame, yet, I don’t hear too many wanting to be accountable, yet are master finger pointers saying, ”look what they did to me!”
