I was sitting there after church today listening to various conversations, thoughts, ideas, and ideologies. for whatever reason, a discussion about various parts of the world transpired and a light bulb went off with why the united states are so polarized and people are seeming to not ask “why?” or have a conversation of differing ideas and opinions. it is that despite the country being run more with a consumeristic model with an immense plethora of choices for instant gratification with products, foods, or services. there are really only two choices for the political views, of which both of them run from the exact same feed trough of leadership. no wonder the country is so goofy these days with the people on the street.
I think the idea came when I mentioned the Norwegian king on the subway, and a friend at Flughafen Zurich pulling his hair out asking, “why do the united states have to bring so much stuff with them? don’t they trust that Switzerland is safe?”
it was during that thought, where I realized how the disconnect between leaders and the average citizen has happened. I also see a great danger in how a country can be split in half with the current model, of which the leaders and the media seem to be equally complicit in avoiding facts and answering questions for the sake of favoritism, special interests, and the commodification of the process of elections and public servants in power.
it simply has gotten out of whack and imbalance, and it will probably continue to divide and grow and when I think of how the robots and ai will be implemented in the next few elections, about the only people that will be able to see through the smokescreens and sad state of social construct with the leadership – are the people that unplug. it is also those same people who step back and ask “why?” that will probably get crushed by the system of the two sides not agreeing.
it is a bit like my bi-sexual friends in entertainment. I never could understand why the straight or the gay community seemed to ostracize them. the only answer I got from each was, “well, the straight people get pissed we are not one of them. the gay people get pissed we are not one of them…so we get crap from both sides for liking both sides.”
while not a great analogy, it is the one that resonates and allows me to understand how strange things can happen and despite having unlimited choices for products, services, and food/bev/medicine to allow for an instant gratification life. what you currently have is simply two choices for your leadership, despite the ideology of the country being, “all men are created equally.”
I don’t really have any good answers with how to solve such a complicated question. it is like working to optimize algorithms with artificial intelligence…we simply don’t know what the unexpected spin-offs or results will be. if you were to take the actions of people and their behaviors in the states lately – it would appear there is a growing mental illness and/or medical issue that is deemed acceptable…despite a lot of it being abnormal and irrational.
maybe i just don’t see it getting better before it gets worse. what about you?
