it is early morning, the mist of fog surrounds everything as the sun is trying to break through and shine its rays of light directly upon all the plants, allowing them the frequencies with which to grow, bloom and flower. I am struggling to count the various birds who are saying good morning to each other, chirping away, some singing, some calling to find out where their friends are. the entire forest canopy is alive, you just can’t see any of the birds. the waterfall makes a peaceful sound as it runs down the rocks into the pond, the final few inches creating a “plop plop, drippitty-drop” sound. Aside from this, there is no other sound. there is peace in my heart as the frequencies of nature are very different than the frequencies most of humanity lives in.
how many people do you know that as soon as they wake up, they need to turn on the Television or Radio? how many do you know that need some sort of noise around them or they get antsy or uneasy with the idea of being alone with themselves? it is easy to say, “I just need to see the news,” but today, don’t most people scan the news the moment they wake up and pick up that love it/hate it device called a mobile?
isn’t that noise enough? and I find with elderly people, you can show the weather forecast, but they are habitually conditioned to watch the weather forecast on tv.
“did the forecast change between the time you looked at your phone and the human on the TV?”
“well, it is odd, what I am finding is the tv guy is wrong a lot, the phone is more accurate!”
“then why do you even listen to the TV guy?”
have you ever been aware and taken time to sit and listen to what your body is being bombarded with each day with noise? I say noise, as it means “unwanted sound” yet, I don't’ really know why we seem to get used to, or simply think all the noise of our busy lives is good? if you hear a really loud car stereo playing, or someone listening to their music on their mobile without earbuds, I might say, “cool!” the problem is usually they sound like merde and I really don’t want to or need to be part of another’s noise pollution.
this silence with self is something that doesn’t make a lot of sense with people, yet, it is something I fight to do twice a day. most of the time, I guess you can call it prayer as I have yet to master the path to walking in prayer or silence on this planet. with meditation, you can get yourself to a place and space beyond your “self” but it does require a lot of time and work. I hear many thinking empathogens and taking a trip is the way, yet, my personal walk has shown me it is more of a fake way, unnatural, and something where you need to keep taking something to experience something. you can actually get a better experience without ingesting anything, yet, it is something that is more a gift of grace than something you check off in a box of “do this!”
you have to put in the work to silence yourself and be still.
what I didn’t realize is how much, and how many layers of noise we have working inside our self in addition to all the external noise. it is like I explain the quality of speakers for instillations and PA systems. my personal preference is Eastern Acoustic works for some applications, and Meyer Sound Product for most anything. will the average person understand the “why?” I like them, much less hear what I am hearing? no they won't. then again, an orchestra conductor and a mix engineer will hear things far beyond what I can hear. some of It is natural, another part is they have trained their ears to hear/listen
speaking of listening. we live in a world where there is a lot of talking, yet, I don’t really see much listening. my case is if someone says something or asks a question, I think they want an answer – how silly of me to think this, particularly in the united states. people ask, “hello. how are you doing?” in spaces and before you can answer, they are gone. if someone asks a question and I answer and hear, “didn’t you know that was rhetorical?”
“uhm, no, I actually am listening.” perhaps that is my problem. as I work on communication courses what I am learning makes no sense with how the human mind perceives chat, and the seeming lack of depth in chat. I am used to sitting in rooms with albeit a bit goofy personalities, they all have a boatload of skills and talents, and no one takes it personally if they don't like an idea, they usually add some path that no one has really thought of before.
I guess I just talked myself into what effective brainstorming is, versus what I see in so many organizations that most of the time they are chasing a list of “to do’s” and “get it done” that are like a giant weight upon the shoulders of the people.
you simply have to put in the time, effort, passion, and consistency with anything and do the work to get really good at something. with a new idea, if you spend a few hours a day for a few weeks or months working the way to get the best form and function into a solution, you will bash through tens of thousands of thoughts. I teach people the secret of brainstorming ,is to simply have the problem and if you are stuck, go to 100 ideas minimum. why? because the first 20 are most likely common sense and everyone thinks of it, then from 20-80, you have 60 ideas that are more difficult to come up with, and usually make no sense, are impossible, or downright stupid. then those last 20? well, it can get painful – yet – that is the space where the magic beyond linear progression and a really new idea, cross-pollination or system happens as your mind has to go beyond that which it knows and ask, “what would really be a great solution?”
the sun is cutting through the fog, the dark muted green tones of the forest muted in fog are suddenly more vibrant and there is contrast with the shadows against the rich green forest. I swear there is a deer staring at me, yet, it is not moving, so I have to wait for it to move or realize, “oh that is just a tree, and the way the light, color and leaves appear…make it look like a frozen deer staring at me.”
with the fog lifting, people are waking, now I am hearing the beauty of nature in its organic state, being diluted with the noise of human voice, machines, and vehicles. the rest of the world is awake. I will simply take this morning, getting up early and starting work outside – as a great treat and blessing from the creator above.
now. we go off and put three ideas into one standardized space. I get really excited the closer we get. how did these ideas come out? you simply ask questions…and come up with answers.
not rhetorical ones. real ones.
