sustainable inclusive diversity, with political, religious, racial ideology, leading to monetization and tax write-offs at the same time.… is it probably is not going to be a fun ride for a few years until people all look at everyone else they are ostracizing or arguing and cut through the media noise that is blasting away about everyone being different and realize, “oh…aren't they a human being, just like me.” perhaps we will contract into being humane to other humans and create a really beautiful society for all to live in. nice dream no?
for example, yesterday I got an email from Adobe Corporation, maker of some of the best graphics tools on the market with their creative cloud ideas. the message was, “pride is here – express yourself!” I thought, pride? couldn’t we all use a bit more humility?
another email was from Airbnb owners asking for money to fund some political issue…I read them and went, “wtf is this? anyone else getting tired of companies whose management is making plenty of coin asking for small donations from everyone that will get the company a bigger tax deduction?” I thought one was supposed to simply give and keep one’s mouth shut about it?
it seems like we are going through a very odd period where I am seeing every race, creed, color, religion, political, social, gender, and ideology – along with each subset we can create for each – seeming to all be spouting and exclaiming a message of inclusion and diversity. it confuses me, as I always thought all men are created equal and then I must be a bit strange to think I am to love everyone and leave the judging of each up to the creator of the universe and focus on myself.
the transition from the words of “all men are created equal” only made sense when my spiritual friend Brett said that line…” my job is to love everyone and leave the judging up to god.” I think I even asked him why don’t they say that in church? why isn’t that simple common sense for social behavior in life?”
the lunacy and polarization of everything is not going to bode very well for human beings. I wish I could isolate this trend to just the united states, but I am hearing the same rumblings out of the middle east, Europe and parts of Asia. I still can remember the day in 1992 when my friend said to get a video camera and download this software from Cornell University called cu-seemed. I logged into a room with 9 other people from all over the planet and I thought, “wow, this is really cool…soon everyone on the planet will be able to connect with each other!”
while we do have the ability for everyone to connect, it is a strange process for how we connected, and today, how the greed and the powers that be have taken the world wide web and are carving it up into tiny nation-states and fiefdoms where freedom and democracy are simply buzzwords thrown around as each individual group screams and pushed data to fit their own agenda. the odd thing is the number of crappy advertisements on the internet now forcing you to watch advertisements for some happy product or service while you wait to get information of the story of another mass shooting in a school or newspaper or other human tragedy. it just doesn’t flow well or make much sense.
I guess we can call it the great contraction or expansion of every race, creed, color, and (insert whatever cause or idea you wish) where when you observe people interacting with each other, there sure is a lot of angry and upset folks out there that perhaps haven’t learned or had to learn about emotional intelligence and/or are simply ignorant and blind to the other persons perspective?
what Is interesting is that this expansion is happening and yet, there will be a contraction with societies and people all creating megacities to live/work/reside in. this trend is already underway and you can see the foundations already in place with the pathway to artificial intelligence, smart spaces and the potential for great abuses of human rights via surveillance systems that will need some time in the field to tweak the false positives from the truth. a lot of innocent people are going to get squished by some machines in ways I doubt the machine and software creators ever intended. but with the need to monetize all…there probably will be a cost associated with machine bias and/or human bias with the creation of these systems. I mean auto manufacturers do risk/reward analysis all the time for the potential loss of human lives.
what will be different with the machines is that armies of legal bots will be available to simply clog up the systems. I can envision the supreme court being a room of 9 supercomputers all running massive amounts of data and iterations of what is/ is not the law….completely devoid of common sense and the understanding of human idiosyncrasies. what is interesting is in 1958, I think there was a person that wrote in “common sense” for computer coding and machine understanding to a problem.
what I am seeing today, is it personal propaganda? personal branding? I am not sure what you call it. every flavor or variation to humanity wants and needs its own special space and place. remember when the grocery store used to have vanilla, chocolate, & strawberry and not much else? today you have pretty much whatever you can imagine on the shelves and our country has not gotten wiser or smaller with such options, but rather we have become larger and more unforgiving and understanding to all the other flavors sitting on the same shelf. are too many choices actually making us bigger, fatter, less tolerant and unhealthier?
I guess this is what is confusing me. I look out at people, I listen to them talk to each other, I stop sometimes to hear the crap thoughts inside my own head, and I wonder sometimes, “what did I ever do to that person to have them be so upset and grumpy?” ever ponders such questions?
the more we push outward as a society and point our fingers at everything that is different and live with the credo’s of an eye for an eye, or trust must first be earned, or if you are persecuted it is a black and white world, yet, if you are the one persecuting – you conveniently rationalize using a million shades of grey…until this stops and we all look at ourselves, it probably is going to get really ugly soon.
there is solace in realizing forever expansion, there will one day be a contraction back towards, “hey, you, me, and they are all human beings…so why are we looking at everyone’s external baubles, skin color, dress, and makeup…and, not at their hearts where we all pump the same color blood?”
the human condition and the simple elements that I don’t hear many talk about – pride, greed, lust, envy…all those vices that are really fun to enjoy but they will all destroy and kill you in the long term…these are the biggest issues with society and humanity.
the idea of democracy and all men are created equal Is really a beautiful idea and model. with it, there has to be a choice – a freedom to such a life. if you force someone to conform to that which they are not, you probably will end up with a society filled with the issues of racism, homophobia, hatred, inequality and some “class” breakdown. at the same time, if you give equality without everyone taking some time to work on themselves instead of having a seeming turf war for ideology over another idea – well, it isn’t going to bode very well either.
there is a balance to it all. I can’t say I have ever experienced any one place on the planet that is perfect. but I have experienced enough places that were safe, to others where life was very cheap to know that living a life in peace is really a nice thing and all the funding you can spend on the security, surveillance and weapons based on fear and insecurity can be applied to things that would make a much nicer planet for everyone to live on.
I always say, “there is enough on the planet for all…the problem is mankind has created a very skewed distribution system.”
there is nothing wrong with “stuff” but until you let go of the “stuff” you will never get to a place where you realize how little you really need, and how happy you can be living each day.
what an interesting paradox, no?
why do we continue to live this way? I really don’t know.
what I do know is it probably is not going to be a fun ride for a few years until people all look at everyone else they are ostracizing or arguing with about being different and realize, “oh…they are a human being, just like me.” and contract into being humane to other humans.
