in a meeting yesterday, someone asked, “how did you all come up with the idea of Agrowspace and how it operated inside developed and 3rd world countries?” I simply responded with a simple linear path of all the events and keyframe moments and when I stopped talking, there was a succinct clarity to it all. more importantly, there is a better path today than when it all started. what don’t we have answers for is do people really want to create a better planet beyond talking about it?
its ok, you can giggle at the last question as a bit bizarre, but what I am talking about is our little planet and how people seem to be a bit more agitated, stressed, and angry with life. instead of people waking up happy – many are thinking, “someday, when I get….then I will be happy.” I wake up each day, and go, “thank god I found something that is so complicated and dynamic that It does not work anymore, rather, an adventure where I am following a path – seemingly being led in a way that is completely illogical by the way we traditionally think.
maybe another thing one has to come to conclusions within reality is to stop chasing and trying to be something you are not. the world is great at broadcasting a small ideal to the masses. if you want to see it in motion, just go to any school where kids are learning to play a sport and you swear they spend hours imitating the behavior of their favorite superstar idol’s jubilation and celebration schtick – however they can’t really yet play the sport all that well.
so, for now, we are working on taking the three main components of what we do and packaging it in a way to bypass or minimize the obstacles we have to deal with in the norm of thinking. why? because we can cross over into three very distinct and different markets and uses. while it is easier to just do the one, it is nowhere near as interesting and we don’t learn as much as blending the three.
I am not really sure how people find doing the same thing over and over interesting in the long term? is it a way the mind thinks? a different sort of personality type? if you are doing the same thing over and over, I would be more concerned or simply making robots – as that is what is coming down the pipe for labor change. as much as I want to keep humans in the repetitive work pipeline, the behavior, reliability, and personality issue – heck, “can you show up on time?” make it very easy to leapfrog in automation.
with all these free time for people soon, I keep wondering “what will they do with this time when the convenience of repetitive work has been filled with robots? I guess a great example is when I am in Switzerland and the trend has roger fedora (l left that in as if you type Federer, that is what apple changes his name to) doing some brilliant Jura ads against using a capsule coffee make.
I guess I am odd. I have been trying to find where Starbucks moved all their old school coffee makers when they went to automated and find where I can get a used old school hand version for myself. I really love single-source coffees. in the perfect world, I probably would love a micro roaster and I would hand grind the beans…
what is the point? it is that if you have a hand grinder, scale, a Hario pour over and a filter, you can make an amazing cup of coffee. it costs not much of anything.
the new coffee makers? really cool, they make nice café crème, you can sort of make a great latte, cappuccino (well, it simply isn’t a full café power tool version) and it costs anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars. what I notice in the co-work space in Switzerland is that if you use one heavily, they always seem to be broken or ??? (the last trip I simply got fed up and bought a $5 pour-over filter since the multi-thousand dollar version wasn’t working except to look really pretty taking up space doing no function
I digress. I am looking at the Jura Z6 in the USA. It is 3,700 USD. and probably double in Switzerland.
do you know how many pounds of coffee, single source and rare I can buy and enjoy for the cost of one of these machines?
but this is where our society is heading. is the coffee machine good? yes, it is very nice. does the machine make a consistent cup of coffee? yes, it does very well if it is working. do the machines really bring the coffee experience into play with getting close to the elements of the process? no.
perhaps I just came up with why I don’t go to cafes anymore to work and brainstorm in the early morning. I am simply watching people pushing buttons, be it with mobiles, tablets, and even to make a cup of coffee with the machines. what I don’t know is how come the machines are not attached to the coffee makers and once the order is in and the person is asking you all sorts of questions to want you to think you are having an “experience” when you simply want “a cup of decent coffee…served efficiently and quickly” – why not have it all just pushing out the coffee and you don’t watch humans scurrying around in various states of disordered order.
ahh..I know why because a dork like myself would ask “why?” then start playing to see how it all worked.
ok..maybe that is the reason why you want a push button society – you don’t want them to know what to do should the machine break or the power goes off.
now that I think about it, I wonder how many pour overs I have made in the parking lot of travel or truck stops when I pull out the coffee kit and someone walks by and says, “wow, that smells amazing.”
I have tried to figure a way to grow coffee inside closed environment agriculture – it is possible – but right now – economically it makes little to no sense. hopefully we never reach that place where we have to because humans screwed up the planet so much with pollution and destroyed the soil.
ok, if you want to understand how my brain works…all this writing has me thinking, “can I build my own industrial grade espresso/café machine….maybe a grinder too.” what is scary, is I can probably build it. I will simply calculate how much? do I do steampunk? or sleek minimalism?
now back to work, work – how do we grow food and people wherever they are on the planet, anytime, anyplace…
