Is n’t the secretary of state was the person in charge of all our embassy and missions around the planet? what is the secretary of the treasury doing opening a US Embassy? wait, we don't even actually have a secretary of state, rather an acting one, as the Tillertson was fired.- how did a controversial priest get the gig giving the blessing when you could have plucked one right up the road from the church of the holy sepulchre? wouldn’t that have saved a small fortune in travel junket costs? I think of Mel Brooks smiling into the camera in one of his movies saying, “it is good to be the king!”
Are people ignorant? unaware? just do not care? or are they blinded by the trappings of the feed trough of power, aka - VIPME!"
perhaps there is not much of anything means anything anymore with protocol, agreements, of the idea of giving someone your word. I wonder how many presidents realize as the leader, how the people look at their actions and say, “hey, but the president did it…I can too!” (usually with very different repercussions)
maybe this is all simply the reality of being human in a country where image and telling everyone how great you are and destroying anyone who disagrees with your one perspective view, is more important than reading those silly words that people like me were influenced by with the founding fathers and the declaration of independence. perhaps all men are created equal applies only to some of the people?
my writing this morning is a bit like the weather, foggy, depressing and gray. Every nation-state has the ability to do what they wish inside its borders. “all men are created equal” does NOT apply to many of the countries on the globe, it is something that I carried with me when I traveled and worked with the different cultures on the planet. it didn’t matter where you were, you or the other culture had different beliefs, yet the same humanistic problems with racism, bigotry and all the other human flaws, was anywhere on the planet. people will fight for “stuff” – sometimes I wonder if that simply is something that will never be overcome with our species time on this planet?
this morning, I was reading a gospel and one part of me thought, “ok, did the leaders of the Jewish state really do this at the time of Jesus? and then, a part asked, “if they wanted to kill Jesus so many times, why did they never just get him?” it was the reading about how the idea of the scripture reading of how one man’s death can save a nation. the other reading was Paul getting chased out of cities because he was preaching Christianity. I think I look at Paul and I do understand how he went from persecuting Christians to becoming one. that's what a Damascus road experience will do for you and your faith. it terrifies you that, there is something different.
but what I am seeing this morning, is not different in the sense of change or goodness. I am seeing actions that appear to be more ego and power based from the united states. I can understand why the secretary of the Treasury wants to be at the opening for personal reasons, but what happened to the actual secretary of state and the what I thought was supposed to be the overall diplomatic purpose of our embassies and missions overseas?
meanwhile china, the EU, and other countries of the world look and if I were them, are probably doing like the swiss banks and the fatca compliance rules – “we don’t need your headaches anymore – there is plenty of money all over the world.” china, which already has it tentacles all over the planet will simply adjust, the EU will have to adjust to a different way of thinking and life…the middle east, I oddly don’t worry much about as what I am seeing happening today outside of Israel is more like, “let’s spend money to build all these cool places, but our own people aren’t’ really working there because we ship others in.”
as long as there is peace on the earth, all this will just work itself out, and I think the united states will learn a sad lesson about globalization. I do agree with the president that our politicians gave away our country, but don’t blame anyone but ourselves and our own swamp that is thriving to this day on capitol hill.
perhaps I get most confused when I think of the time of a human life, how short it really is – but we all want to be so important. I understand how this happens, but what I don’t grasp, of which I will be writing about it tomorrow with the idea of what I finally recognized as a shit in the USA business mentality is that big and huge is fun to aspire and build, collect all the stuff, and have the perks of beauty, power, prestige, and stuff….but in the grand scheme of it all…it is simply dust. I have found more meaning and depth when I walked away from chasing the world of bigger and better images and brands and working to become more human.
to some, that might be considered foolish, to another perhaps wisdom? life can be a beautiful thing – in the last 100 years, I thought humans would have gotten a bit wiser from the realities of the first half a century of war on the planet. but I think we have forgotten about it, and our current culture rewards the disease of “look-at-me-itis” and self.
if you erase all your history and the protocol you learned from the past – guess what, your future isn’t going to be all that wise or bright.
maybe that is the human conditions problem, we have too short a lifespan to really learn wisdom and change ourselves to realize there is enough for all on this planet, and we actually need everyone to help each other to take the planet to a place that really could be amazing to live on.
my two odd free cents this morning. time for a café. perhaps wisdom is that I didn’t drink the coffee first and simply ignore what I see happening today, and what happened a few thousand years ago seems to be much the same. “love your enemy? that be crazy talk!”
but it really works to heal part of what is broken with the human condition.
