I was having a cup of coffee today and an actual conversation with a friend. we discussed many things, of which, I still think I have a culture shock of sorts in the USA. “how is it when we were kids a teacher and a policeman were given respect, yet today, education is more about lawsuits, shootings, and the policemen all have cameras on them to create more of a level of creepiness in a surveillance society? wouldn’t it be simple if people took accountability for themselves?
“you are so naïve mark, you think people will change?”
I guess after the walking out of the path on the planet I have been on. yes, I do think people have the choice and the ability to learn and to change. what I think a part of the problem is that the developed world (if you want to call it that) has created some image with shiny things and baubles to attract people into thinking they need “stuff” for happiness and the idea of “effort and time” was thrown out the window once greed made it possible for entire organizations to make profit by making nothing/do nothing. “just take this pill, it will all go away. medicine is your friend!”
“will it make me better?”
“you don’t want to actually get better, do you? it is best if you just keep taking these pills because then we can have a sustainable industry to provide jobs to people. your part is to just keep taking the pills and not asking a question or do things like eating less or exercising a bit.”
I see this mentality in the not for profit world more and more. “what? you want us to solve the problem we are spending all this money to raise more money for? what would we do if we solved the problem? we would no longer have jobs!”
it is this type of thinking that frustrates me a bit. with agrowspace we are working on ways for people to grow their own healthy and nutritious food, year-round, anywhere on the planet. it does not interest people as they would rather buy the micro shaved carrots that turn white with the ammonia bath than taste something they can grow in their own space…sans pesticides and minimal water usage.
what we are doing in the inner fitness world is probably more comical in created the space and orbs for people to go recharge themselves and work on the issue inside themselves. one group wants super immersive audio, another “can we do virtual imaging?” yet, I think either they don’t know or have not experienced the reality of being in nature long enough to realize that nature has a speed and rhythm all its own. the speed and rhythm of humanity is a bit crazy and skewed, will accelerate a bit – all because we chased the acquisition of more shiny objects and stuff than looking at ourselves and each other.
such is the state of the world today, and when you connect the dots with computer processing and advanced artificial intelligence and robotics, you can easily come up with a scenario where humanity becomes very isolated from itself and lives in some image-driven world of faux reality or faux self importance. (is the latter really a thing?)
it is a bit like when you first saw the Wizard of Oz and realized the all-powerful wizard was some little guy playing with levers. I say the same thing with fears of humans. for whatever reason, we tend to look at the giant shadow on the wall as the “fear” when if we looked toward the light, you probably would see a tiny little impotent thing making finger puppets in front of a light – that you see projected as a big image on the wall.
why do people tend to look at the wall? I don’t really know.
I guess it is a trained behavior, much like how we created giant organizations with immense wealth for a few, while the masses just get by forgetting to live, and just thinking to pop a survival pill is somehow living.
got me. I had a bit of a revelation yesterday in realizing I was holding on to the inventions and ideas we have. just build it and see what others can use it for. odds are, someone will come up with completely different ideas than growing healthy food, or giving someone a space to get a breath of peace in their lives.
truth is, all of these solutions are available, free of charge in nature. it is just that man is too busy to realize it.
maybe we will all get a bit wiser before the cost to humanity gets so large that an immense amount of pain and suffering comes to the globe before people wake up and realize each Is part of the change.
that concludes whatever this ramble is about for this day…
