I have heard this term before, "intermittent fasting, " but never really paid much attention to what it meant. I figured you simply did periods of fasting from either certain foods or over extended periods of time; much like one does with a spiritual fast where you abstain from foods for extended periods. what I learned is that from a physical standpoint, it simply is a cycle to tune your body with food intake and elongated time periods of no food intake. sounds simple, no?
for example, there is the 16:8 fast which simply means you have a short 8 hour period of time to eat your normal food and then a 16 hour of nothing but water and perhaps some coffee or tea. after a Lenten fast for the past several weeks, I am not going to lie, I also had some physical goals in mind that I liked where the process was heading.
what is different this year is I will take the few days of Easter holiday and revert back into a physical program with the hopes that I can regain where I was at the beginning of last October with cardio and work on trying to maintain a decent old human athletic body. I realize I am simply built the way I am and will never be some thin euro-type figure.
I am not sure what this is all about, but do you ever have days you wake up after putting in a load of work and wonder, “what is the purpose of all this?” and you get a little blue or down. I joke that each morning if I don’t fail 100 times during the morning brainstorm, I am not working hard, but over time, it still amazes me how much time and/or money it takes to bring some idea to life. 6 months ago we had 4 distinct ideas and products we were working on and with a few folks in the usa, and me forgetting that in the usa a person’s word means very little anymore and/or people just like the blab about whatever to have someone hear them? well…what I am doing now is streamlining all into one company idea where we can split off each idea but keep the research and cool part in a space where we can cross-pollinate other similar but unrelated ideas.
I mean the funny news is that we sort of have a company mission statement that will read something like “taking plants and people and providing them with the best-controlled environments for growing, learning and change.”
when you think about it, and the advent of all the inexpensive sensors, artificial intelligence, and things – it is a huge market. but we are focusing on things that help people live a better life with food, spaces, and nutrition.
now, I will see if I can develop the discipline to test this intermittent fast for a week. that is the length of a fast with no food at all, just water that happened twice in my life for spiritual reasons. doing them is good if you really are in it for spiritual purposes and they do help you to see yourself a bit clearer and realize there is a whole lot happening with all the people on the planet and the universe. but for a physical change of the human body and gaining strength and training – probably not the greatest fast to do for that.
the reality is all the things we are doing, is basically common sense. each of us has some things we do or don’t like to do. each of us has some talents we are good, great, not so hot at…but there is that balancing act between the dream and getting the details done that is difficult for most, as you have to change some habits or disciplines. usually, that all takes some time to unwind and rewind with the new.
have a nice day. I will confess today has been really odd and it isn’t even 10 am and I will let you all know how the intermittent fasting goes. I just get confused that we have to keep putting up new spiffy names for what we all know is common sense with time and food intake, it should work fine, if I cut out the extra eating time. ahh, that discipline stuff.
