maybe I missed all the memo’s, or perhaps the rest of the world just is catching on with the reality of the size and scale of the silicon valley giants and all the money they make, dishing data, and then having the ability to manipulate it for their own skew/slant/agenda/purpose. I have been standing at the top of the tower yelling a warning since post 9-11, but perhaps with being a bit ahead of the times, others were too busy shoving data out for free and the powers that be were scratching their heads, “isn’t there usually a tradeoff between privacy and security? this is a one way street in our favor.”
I guess what has me scratch my head these days is all the Russia election junk and the shocking news that manipulation is going on in a country where greed and the allure of power will have sane normal humans sell their souls off to get a crumb or two from the pie. surveillance is nothing new, and loads of money is spent with corporate and governmental intelligence, and a portion of that to downright spying on someone or something – and yet, people are shocked that it is happening, with the mindset, “wait a minute, you can’t spy on me! only I can spy on you!”
the past election is a great example. the democratic party with the leaked documents of conduct should have anyone in the party question the ethics and behavior of how candidates run in a supposed “democratic” process. the pieces I glean don’t make it sound very democratic with the reality of actions, and what I really would love to know if it was a Smokey backroom deal made in 2008 with vice president Biden deciding not to run vs the golden child, and seeming heiress of the party, Mrs. Clinton.
on the Republican side. you know some really sleazy stuff had to happen. all you have to do today is stop to look at the seeming non-stop revolving door of bodies getting fired with the administration and connect the dots, like what happened in the last 6 months with the Saudi government and the house of Saud, and you realize either by ignorance, stupidity, favoritism, or nepotism – games were and are being played. I think the strategy is to keep that rotating door constantly spinning, as the moment it stops for a bit, a giant river of questionable ethical decisions will spew forth like manure flying into a fan running at high speed.
meanwhile, in silicon valley, where giant fortunes have been made, conveniently offshored with the benefits that allow the special interests and wealth to legally maneuver in a way the average citizen can’t have basically allowed growth and access that for all I know might be better or greater than the government intelligence systems that are looking around at anyone and everything these days. I mean, there is a giant vacuum cleaner for data sucking up everything created in I think Utah. right now the problem isn’t being able to capture and store all the data, but rather, how to accurately look at the data and connect the pieces. with our current algorithms, it is pretty interesting what we can and can’t do – but soon with the quantum computers and newer database technologies – all that data can be parsed, analyzed, sifted and quantified.
the problem is that human beings are irrational and emotional beings, more qualitative at times than quantitative. computers like logic and don’t do so well with chaos and complexity with irrational beings. yet, these few companies which were founded and made boatloads of money for many – sans – ever producing one cent of profit – have people asking, “did I sell my soul?” and “why am I so empty in my heart…despite being able to buy anything I can think of?”
it is a similar dilemma of the ex-vice president saying he would beat up the president for his treatment of women, yet, the same vice president has lived his entire working life inside the same system where I wager he had the best seat to watch how the power in Washington, dc has changed, and how much greed and lust for power has changed humans beings from decent folks that wanted to bring change – yet – the system got them so caught up in the money, power and accolades for the “self” that changing would require people to give up all the perks, power, nepotism, and seeming political groupie perks.
in retaliation, the current president then tweeted about how he would win the fight over the ex-president.
if I were writing a comedic sitcom, I would say the following silliness would make a great show for comedy, but like the gigantic data collection and soon to be manipulating systems that are in place – it is the reality.
we have seen net neutrality bought and paid for by our leaders despite being what I thought was a country that believes in the democratic process and the idea of freedom.
what we currently have is what usually happens with new technologies and tools. when you allow the systems in place to commodify the idea versus use it for the enhancement and improvement of the overall society – what you end up with is a small group with great wealthy watching elected officials challenging each other to fist fights on the platforms they few own and control. the average person doesn't’ spend the time or want to connect the dots of what is happening as it would interfere with them posting made up images of themselves and/or retweeting a message that few reads. (it is scary when you look at the reality of people hitting “like” and never even looking at the message)
and people wonder why “social” networks are making us go farther apart as human beings.
it has been going on for a while now. what really concerns me is how humans have used tools in the past, and the new batch coming along with AI, AAI, machine learning, robots and quantum computing…well…the soil is very fertile for some really horrific misuse for the commodification of data and hiding it under the guise of being something for the betterment of society.
I guess that is part of life. we are all imperfect and the idea is we can all work together to make something really good for all – yet – when one puts up shiny objects and things and declares how valuable they are for people – people will sell their souls to acquire the shiny object – even if it means they rot from the inside out.
perhaps that is the reason for so much make-up, fashion, and cosmetics? it is to cover up that which is one's heart and soul-rotting from the inside. this last line is just an idea – but there might be some validity to it at the root level, no? how much is really wanting to "look your best?" and how much is about creating some "image" that shows only a piece of the full reality?
· it is like the question I would love to have the honest answer from the ex-vice president about why he didn’t run for president. was there more to it than the passing of his son? or was that the reason that was the best fit for whatever happened in 2008 and an unexpected victory from President Obama shattered the plans for Mrs. Clinton. we will never know the truth, as only god and each person know their own hearts…but something just doesn't add up when you look at the picture from the past election and the continual “programming” of people that have been going on and will get worse, the more sophisticated the algorithms get. or - people can stop, take some time away, step back, and wonder, “why was I playing in that game?”
