I am wondering and debating unplugging with the other things I usually do for Lent. I find the idea of fasting/unplugging/cleansing being thrown into the secular world inside the usa more and more as people seem to really be at the cusp or realizing there is a lot more to life than working to acquire stuff that is called and has been marketed as the “American dream.” the other reason for the unplug and what I normally do each year with a process that is best described as high-intensity exercise for the internal heart and soul is that I have three or is it four projects that need to be flushed out. I can usually handle one or two at a time, but for whatever reason, it appears I am fed up with “dreamers” and will simply walk out each project, “reality”
seems odd that there is a clearly defined path for what we do. but the scope of it can affect so many things. while It is easy to give up social media because it is isn’t like the early 90’s where people all got together to chat with minimal trolls. I think I am on Instagram because I was looking at the algorithms and performance and that data has long been accrued. I was doing it now because it was fun to post images I liked and realize there are a lot of people posting a selfie of themselves each day. I simply don’t fit into that space on the internet, nor do I really want to.
so for now…maybe I write on the weekends. but I will be immersed in a space or the next 40 days where there is a lot inside I would like to exercise, alter, change, and become a better human. the work side…hey, it is really interesting. but I realize the idea of collaborative working, which I really like the idea – it is sort of like the beauty of co-working spaces. really is limited because of the simple fact that power, greed, and control are the bigger issues people have to work on instead of hiding behind legalism and contracts.
grandpa always said, ‘if you need a contract, you probably should not be working with the people.” I get that you have them, but the core is, “do you want to work with these people? are they good people? or are they out to screw you and acquire all for themselves?”
I have a similar view of NDA’s lately. maybe it was the lunacy of silicon valley where everyone had everyone signing an NDA before a meeting. I am happy to sign them, but at the same time, I have seen what is a good idea being used as a tool for control of misdeeds and hiding too much crap people do with ill behavior in the past few years. as an inventor/innovator, you are bound to get ripped off here and there, but the reality is if you are the person coming up with the ideas, you have bushel baskets full of them to work on.
to the folks without any ideas…some will try to rip you off, others will work the idea…finding folks that will work or think as highly of the idea as you do…is few and far between. we have created a world wherein the USA 2 out of 3 folks were given or inherited their money. they never really had to create it. thankfully you have 1 out of 3 that are entrepreneurs that take the risks and make their money. this was fine until everyone started to think they could make money doing nothing. I think when I realized there were more mutual funds than actual stocks and companies…I lightbulb went off with people thinking money grew on trees.
so till whenever, perhaps writing one day a week, I will use the 10 minutes for a new idea and see where it leads. until then. keep learning, growing, and take some time to go inside yourself. it is amazing the rewards you get by letting go of your stuff. the break allows you to re-enter and wonder, “huh?what is the world chasing? it resembles people on a gerbil wheel, plugged into stuff, and micro-dosing with digital noise.”
see you in 40 days? or in a week? who knows how long this unplugging will last. I think it is a product of how much of the four projects get put into a form anyone can understand and go, “oh…that's a good idea!”
of course, most have no clue how much time and effort goes into taking an idea into reality. such is an issue with an ever instant gratification world.
