We are coming upon a time and age with the globe where the idea of the global village could actually happen, allow for a more democratic planet, and allow for a shifting in the landscape where more humans could have a better quality of life. This change will not change or alter if the people will be happy with themselves, but it will quite possibly allow for better chances.
When looking at the “happiness” element in the developed world, you have to wonder how many people are really genuinely happy with their lives and living from more of the reality of working internally to grow in happiness, or are they looking for elements that are external with objects, things, and possessions to make one happy? There are very different ways to live, and having lived both, I think the first one really is the only way to grow and work into long-term happiness.
Now for the not so nice part. To grow internally, you have to scrape off all the things you covered up yourself with make-up, clothes, possessions, accolades, and admission to certain clubs or tribes.
An easier is simply to just keep on going and acquiring and possessing more and more in the hope that one day, “when I just have….(insert dream or idea)…then I will be happy!” this thinking is more like eating a nice meal and not learning how to cook. you will always have to have another cook the amazing meal.
a better proverb is, “feed a man a meal and he can live for the day, teach a man to fish, and he can live forever.”
if you don’t learn how to fish, or make yourself happy – odds are you will never find or live in the deep riches of it that are available to you, me, and everyone else on the planet. in some ways, being happy is a choice, just like we all have the choice to love or hate.
in a strange way, perhaps that is the quest of internalized and externalized paths to achieve happiness. after all, happiness is simply an emotion, and I don’t know too many people always 100% all the time. we are humans and there will be moments where unhappy events, trials, and tribulations come into our lives. it is easier to reach for some medicine to numb the pain, yet, I have watched it create vicious cycles where I see entire nations medicating to avoid any pain.
While pain is not fun, pain is a pretty good indicator that something is not quite right.
How can you expect to change and find happiness if society is constantly medicating with external things to numb the internal issues?
I apologize that most of the writing the past few months have been pretty lame. I have constantly been in a state of moving around and trying my best to help people be happy, allow their dreams to come true, and please more than I upset. it is not the best way to do this by living a space where you drop some of your disciplines – yet – it also shows you how much you do need that Daily discipline and time inside yourself, as when you take that time, you are a much happier person and all the tiny insignificant molehills we can make into mountains – remain just that – little molehills.
All the research I have done with entertainment, business, and technology – is pointing to a creepy possibility of what life will be like for a lot of the planet soon. the naïve belief when the internet started about really making a free and democratic, “global village,” is turning more and more into some basic tribal space where nations are locking up ideas/thoughts/people and using technology in a way to control or medicate – not necessarily allow growth or understanding of anything different.
While controlled environments are great for plants and growing things in a seemingly sterile environment devoid of things that can hurt the plant. What I am designing and seeing is people making such environments for people to live in. as of this writing, I do not think this is in the best interests of making better people as it will make a habit of people not really being open or adaptable to change.
The irony is people need to grow and change each day – it is how one learns happiness – no matter what external circumstances come one’s way.
