industrial minimalism? insdustrial loft? mobile-global-home? hmmm…
one of the odd benefits in helping someone is that an idea from 1996 has come back forth into the forefront of my vision. I realize that I am usually about 20-25 years ahead in my mind working on new ideas that come from asking, “why can’t we do this?” or “wouldn’t it be neat if there was something that could do that?” this particular idea was a blend between living all the years on the road and the idea of having a home base somewhere on the planet.
a few years ago I found myself living in a big warehouse, which is something I always wondered about and fell in love with the idea of big space via experiential living. it was then that the old ideas from 1996 came into focus again, and now…I am looking at the throwaway parts from a friend and going, “why not build this?” it would allow the original idea to come to life – and be moved anywhere on the planet
do I have to add that I am so fed up with the current climate of maker spaces with universities, colleges, and social groups being more about publicity and/or ego than actually a place for people with ideas to really make things? so ….I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier, I think the reason is that I do think the idea of a group and sharing ideas and spaces really can work better than one group hoarding all the tools. sadly, it is like the market forces you back into going the later route.
so today, I will go and see what one guy can do in a space and have the sketchbook handy with scribbles and then I will take them back to the sketchbooks from 20 years ago and see what is different, and how the idea has improved to space where it can be a reality.
it is a niche market, as I don’t think most people want to wander and live all over the planet, yet, it really does open up some interesting possibilities to live/work/make – anywhere on the planet it is the same thing as our controlled environment ag stuff…yeah, you can grow your food anywhere on the planet. this will only improve over time as technology allows better solutions with root crops and grains.
I rambled…I am tired…but I typed. it was a day I just didn’t feel like typing. I know better and did.
