won’t be going to Zermatt to visit as extreme levels of snowfall and avalanches have taken what is really a unique spot on the planet and rendered it more a rescue zone of sorts to get access. too bad we weren’t a bit earlier, as it would be a nice place to get stranded in the Alps. so instead of an image of the Matterhorn, I have something with American hot dogs.
so what I am doing is melting my brain watching that TV thing. anyone that knows me understands I threw the idea of watching to out in the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal in the 90’s. since then, I feel the idea of television has that funny word of “programming” with it. before the internet, it was a great way to “program” how you wanted to form images, messages, and ideas to the population. you don’t really see this unless you go around the planet and see all the various cultures reporting. some to an extreme end and a few are left that simply report the fact, devoid of rapid-fire edits, perky talking heads, gratuitous action shots of breasts and legs, where new simply went the way of other industries to become “entertainment.”
what is the effect of all this on people? it is more like a slow build of how one wants to control society and the way people can think inside a country. yesterday I listened to how some people get their news, or how they get their news, and then the way the local society policies and/or controls the “way of life” or “culture and tradition” in a society. it made my brain explode after coming from a similar place and path as a kid – I asked “why?” a whole lot. if someone could not explain a construct or a reason beyond, “it's always been done this way, it’s not my job, why do you want to change?” I would seemingly check out; wondering why no one looked deeper into things
what the media and the control of people, be it via machines, rules, laws or other people imposing their will upon others – the reality is the idea of “freedom” or “freedom of choice” two very valuable and amazing gifts we have in the democratic world can never flourish.
if you look at the internet, the idea of the world wide web was to allow all the ability to inform and democratize the planet with everyone having access to knowledge and different views and ideas.
what is happening today is that idea has and will be chopped up into small fiefdoms and borders, somewhat similar to actual natural land borders where when quantum computers become reality for all…will this destroy the control and barriers that have been set up by religions, companies, nations, states? or will it simply allow for more control of the way people view and think?
time will tell. right now…I have some prototypes to make and a 1970’s theme birthday party to attend. I will look full on “American idiot” – god I did not like the 70s. I was more like the athlete who was part of the chess club and simply didn’t fit in well – sans the nerds and geeks.
