it wasn’t the use of elephants, nor was it that attention spans have been reduced to nanoseconds with many humans, nor was it that there is a shortage of performers who could do seemingly inhuman tricks. no, it simply the way new is reported has gotten so bizarre, that the circus simply could not compete with the current day freak show of media and politics.
reporting appears to be on its death bed, op-ed, blame, no answering a question, honesty, overtalking/screaming and bad video images is now the new – news?
the leaders wonder where the population is acting the way they do.
This morning’s missive should be pretty short. I made the mistake of looking at the headlines of the news this morning. it is something I do after a brainstorm, but when getting the computers ready, I had left a page of a newspaper open. The headlines were of the reality of our media world. you have a powerful hurricane, earthquake and other calamities happening, and the headlines are about our leaders all blaming each other for everything wrong while seeming to have some camera radar to seek out face time with it with the sucking power of an industrial shop vac.
fame, fortune, popularity is all nice. but I think it becomes a drug of sorts. much like media and/or social norms saying, “you have to buy, dress, look, think, own or talk like this to be accepted” into whatever niche matches that – and then you fight against anything different.
looking at the way politics and our leaders tend to work…. there is a commonality with all of them. I don’t know if it used to be “serve the people” who elected you. but today it really is looking more and more like, “serve yourself.”
The bad thing is that I do think absolute power corrupts. I also think anyone that gets a taste of power and the perks of it, will also get sucked into the system – as it is far bigger than any one person. it is more like a feed trough of lots of stuff. When the people are asked to leave that magical dinner table – they aren’t going to go easily.
I wonder how many think they are entitled to it? that is the odd part of systems. when one is assimilated into it – whatever behavior of the group and its antics – is thought of as normal.
maybe I should read the headlines more often. it sure dumbs you down quickly. I would rather go watch a circus than what the media is showing. at least the circus was entertaining.
