I am really not sure how or why when one travels across the invisible border between countries or even sections of larger countries that there appears to be a distinct change in the culture and mannerisms of people. this morning I was in a market and a woman just barged in front of me without saying “excuse me.” It struck me as odd, particularly that in this country people freak out about thinking there is privacy, having their photo taken in public, or standing too close to another in the check-out line in the market.
the irony is many seems to want to know about all the other folks stuff, but god forbid someone looks at that persons stuff….I guess this is a universal malady?
I moved an augmanity project from pencil to pen yesterday. today the graphics folks will get to move forward on an idea that I hadn’t planned on getting to for a while, yet, with the work in the past year with the plants and mushrooms…there is a huge crossover that I really haven’t seen done inside even the professional sports world for performance at the mass level. so this idea has me very intrigued as it takes the work from 25-30 years ago when technology wasn’t inexpensive enough for the masses and today, “voila…it is possible…yet with a better use in the market.”
this brainstorm café is caused by me downloading a manual to a coffee machine in the co-work space in Suisse and trying to get a cup of coffee made. it is a bit of a mystery as to why the machine is being naughty, and/or what should be a simple push of a button and you get some coffee, might the owner playing a version of candid camera on me to see what I will do when the machine doesn’t appear to work all that well.
truth be told, I wish I brought my scale, as the simplicity of a pour over has been mastered and I could make a lot of coffee. if this descaling doesn’t work…I will go buy the 4 franc pour over and some beans. it is funny, but that costs less than the cup of one café here in this country. why is it so much? I really don’t know. while delicious…I think it is a bit of a rip-off. much like people charge you for tap water in a restaurant.
I digress…today will be a day of sketching out some solutions where a section that I don’t think too many really spend much time or effort thinking about with plant and even people will happen. we ran into the issue when working out the mushroom rooms more than the leafy green plants. what came out was a fairly complex system that we have the controller technology to simplify and oddly, use in many places besides just agriculture. I will have to call the folks in Florida and send them the idea and ask, “how can we do this?”
can you tell I am excited about what has transpired in a few months. I guess it is what happens when one door closes and you have put your heart and soul into helping another, with what seems to be for nothing. as you gain experience with working and building new ideas, you do realize all the doors that close, do lead you to others that are open – so long as you don’t quit. what I am marveling at today is the research we did 25-30 years ago, finally has the market saying, “is this possible?” or my favorite is listening to someone say, “I have a great new idea” and you sit and listen and have an internal laugh because you already did all the prototype trials and testing 30 years ago. it is an odd moment where you ask yourself, “do I help these people? will they listen to what does and doesn’t work?”
my apologies for digressing again, the coffee machine has defeated me despite downloading the manual and using google translate. I will go get a 4 franc pour over and kilo of coffee and let the native folks laugh at the American mud tea (that is what they think our coffee is)
now I think I need to sketch out some of the basic ideas….which is what the simple forms are what is needed in a world that thinks you need new and spiffy organic shapes that are mathematically interesting, but about as functional as using a flyswatter when a nuclear weapon is needed. “but it looks so cool!”
“what does it do?”
“nothing, but isn’t it cool?”
“have you ever thought about a career in entertainment?”
“don’t you need talent these days?”
“not so much, you just need to look the part”
ces't lavie - hopefully you didn't get a headache trying to follow whatever dribble came out of my noggin in the last 10 minutes...sans breaks to get a coffee machine to work.
