If you told me that I would be up in the middle of the night learning a new skill making venison jerky, I would have laughed. then again, the idea that I was out hunting makes me laugh as well. dad is all happy and excited, yet, I know he won’t eat all the meat – thus I enlisted my old high school friend to make him kielbasa and I will do the jerky. I have to confess, I am actually amazed at how it is turning out. I think I have a formula for the time that will bridge the two test batches and allow for a recipe I can follow. it is a similar thing to how we grow food in controlled environments – once you have the recipe for the plant – it is fairly simple to get really consistent results.
I am down in the city I grew up in for Thanksgiving and it is good to see that they have the university here as it is allowing a bit of a small renaissance with the local town that was getting a small bump in growth from the university students. the other towns that are around the area who don’t have the lifelines of university help tend to be filled with amazing old buildings that I can easily find a lot of uses for – yet – you have some folks that think the value is still what it was years ago. you can put any value on anything you wish, it doesn’t mean anyone has to pay it.
right now we have a few projects – (the list grew in one week) with some interesting people and problems. what I really odd is how all that research and work we did with immersive audio/visual/olfaction years ago – has garnered two groups calling for the idea. the good news is that I think we can help and take the projects on and work our other core with it. time will tell.
the traveling isn’t something I can say I am thrilled about for the next few months – but it is what it is. while I have this dream lab that is built in nature – an expansion of going in and out of it probably is the best idea until they come up with a safe and viable autonomous tour bus that also flies.
you have to dream…it keeps you young at heart. I don’t know why people don’t keep following their dreams or changing and improving themselves each day. do you? it is like the jerky idea - i have always wanted to try to make it, and have a smokehouse designed for wherever the lab in nature gets built....but half the battle is simply taking the step and doing and then modifying along the way to get something good to great.
to me, this seems like common sense, yet the world is terrified of not looking perfect or thinking they can master something on one attempt. it simply does not work that way.
