the past few days have me feeling like I am back on the road with the seeming perpetual time spent working. the difference is that doing a show was more fun than what we are closing down and opening up. I think it is simply the way people work? at dinner, I commented that there wasn’t a lot of goofiness with the workers bonding together with shows. we all had a common goal and time constraints to get an event off. in the normal world, it appears that unless you have all the people on the same page, it is the human beings that do, “all things goofy” with getting time constraint projects done.
I like that, “all things goofy.” he was always one of my favorite Disney characters.
so, for now, I crashed at 5 pm and got a slight nap and now I don’t have a clue where I am, what I am doing, or what all transpired in detail with having to stay up for a day to get a deadline finished. we shall see what happens in the coming week, but god willing, the biggest part may have been solved today. the rest is simply time and trying to stay ahead of a less than favorable time constraint. we shall see.
the highlight of the day, really happened with a few simple texts and photos from my folks, who got a call from their grandson about, “can I come visit?”
I don’t really think there is a more powerful medicine anyone can invent for them as they were so excited and happy that he was coming. even the tiny microscopic image mom sent with her cell phone was like watching a beaming ray of sunlight coming from the two of them. I get details perhaps later today. last, I knew my mom was in a baking frenzy taking her excitement and making cookies and treats for her grandson to take back with him.
now I look around this space and try to shake the cobwebs out of my mind from having to stay up for a day and get the pieces in place by 7 am this morning. truth is, I don't’ really remember the day as I was so tired – but that is like a normal old day on the road. sometimes you really had no idea what day, time, or city you were in.
perhaps that was one of the interesting things about life on the road? it was different, usually simply lots of hard work, but oh so interesting.
I just remembered a most interesting man stopped by today amid the chaos and we had a chat about his foundations new land acquisition to create a community based rural ag center. there are some people who you meet that you know are more than some casual circumstance in life (he was the Abe Lincoln shirt wearing guy a few weeks ago) ….it will be interesting to have a coffee later this week – which is almost too busy…but it is better than not being busy at all.
my fingers type, as if rambling late into the night…it might take a few days to get back to normal after that 48 hours of work – that few ever will see actually occurs behind the scenes. we tend to only notice what is on stage.
how weird is today? now I am up at night, eating some sardines and a salad I made with some fresh tomatoes off the vine from a lighting test, writing odd thoughts in the night…that usually is only done in the morning.
