I haven’t spoken much to my brother in the past month sans and occasional email. He has been very busy working on a type of ascetic life that involves periods of deep meditation staring at his naval, with a smile upon his face, preferably on a warm beach. You see my brother is my go, or was my go to guy at the hospital with questions about neurology and the brain until he went into another group. My brother had a collapsed artery in his neck when he was 13 or 14 years old that allows him to be the guinea pig to calibrate new MRI technology, “hey, want to see the hole in his brain?”
Thus, as I mentioned to him how fascinated I found Rosalind Picard’s talk about the unexpected finding with wearable technology and seizure prediction and the potential for depression detection, it just verified all the tricks we are doing with Agrowbox 2, can apply to humans with our Augmanity. He just sat there listening like a guy that has been in a hospital too long.
I am excited about the idea that humanity, and mankind might be able to change the elements inside themselves to stop all the insane behavior we are so good at with the internal issues of greed, gluttony and the rest of the lot we all have to deal with.
“Dude, I am out of neurology…I don’t care. Besides that, don’t all the learned holy books say that man is basically screwed, the world will end one day?”
I thought about it for a second, and realized my brother was correct. Human beings as we know it are indeed marked for extinction on our current trajectory if we don’t change our behaviors on a global level.
“So what you are saying is screw trying to help others, just grab a beer, sit on a beach and enjoy the sunset?”
“Yeah! That’s about it!”
I marveled at the logic of illogic with my brother and what he had learned while he and his ascetic co-hort Tommy D had learned about life while, according to mom, worked up twin Buddha bellies upon themselves on the beach, just staring at waves and hearing the sound of surf.
Thus, this morning. I look upon a café, which in 20-30 years will simply be automated, and I wonder if a human will serve us anymore, or some robot will stand there because they are far more reliable and efficient than any human, can sense exactly what our body needs via sensor networks and gives us the prefect cup of coffee based on what we feel and need.
That cabin in the woods is really sounding good. At least nature you have the rhythm of life – sans human goofiness.
Isn’t my brother wise? He just gave me the green light to drink lots of beer and look at my mom and say, “he told me to, he said it would make me wise!” and have a big snicker smile upon my face.
