If I were a space alien, sent to watch the United States, I might report, that the people in the country appear to be constantly destroying the peace love an joy for themselves, while for being a relatively large country, it has more than most in the effort to have a good life. What is odd is that the leadership with both political parties are bought and sold by the same group of people and somehow the average or normal person gets sucked into siding with one or the other side, and not realizing that at the top, both groups are very much the same.
It would be amazing to me, as an alien that another civil war did not break out because of political party affiliation.
I never thought Orwell’s premonition would come true as a child. What he wrote about society and the corporate overlords and how life might be, was pure science fiction to me. Now a few years later, I wish I could say wiser, but that is truly debatable, I will have to re-read 1984 and see if I feel the same way.
It is like dinner the other night, a part of the discussion came up about racism and discrimination from a black friend about, “you don’t know nothing about it.”
I almost blew up at the table as I really am getting tired of hearing the race card being played, it sounds like all the other excuses I am hearing inside the united states at what seems like every group lining up and pointing their fingers at that which looks, thinks, acts or behaves differently than themselves and judging them, while they themselves never look inside themselves and ask, “hey, something is wrong, how can we change us? find a real solution to the problem? (usually it is right inside us - but we have finger-point-itis)
On Sunday, there was a good sermon in the Greek Church about fundamentalism and the scary way it works across all religions. In the past, it was all about really basic tenants but today, it has become more like looking at an entire pizza with a myriad of toppings and simply taking one topping off the overall pizza and exclaiming, “this is the truth and the only way!” While completely forgetting there is a giant pizza and a lot of toppings sitting right in front of them that they are ignoring.
Never thought I would ever see the United States in such an odd space. I am not sure if it was always like this, but we could never see it so clearly, or if technology and the Internet are creating silos of people, based on beliefs that separate that which is different? The Internet brought the entire globe together for a few years when it became public – today – it seems like a bastardization of capitalism where manipulation of the same is good, and the attempt to bring that, which is different, is bad.
In some respects it was how I am seeing the bridge between business, university, and NGO’s – each is too busy fighting for turf and their own vision – that like that pizza with all the toppings I mentioned earlier…each is holding up a topping and forgetting the overall pizza.
How will it ever blend…I have some ideas…will let you know how it works out soon. But if i were a space alien, maybe i would beam a message across all form of media to remind the country that it became great and innovative because it was people coming from all lands on the planet, each was a bit different – and that is what really made the United States rather special in the first place...
…the vast amount of “different” is what allowed us to “innovate.”
