I wrote a punk rock type song in the late 90’s that might be more relevant today. It was called “where has Walter Cronkite gone?” as an homage to the way media has gone from reporting unbiased facts, to highly profitable op ed pieces and calling it news. It was about the same time I stopped watching television for anything entertaining.
Today I asked someone what the huge waste of time, press, and interest was about some talk show host, a perky blonde haired woman who took over from a show that used to be hosted by Regis Phlibin. There appears to be brouhaha over a new host leaving, and instead of just doing what most folks do in entertainment, “the show goes on.” I guess the personalities and announcers have created such brand and seeming new genre of “tour-rider-diva-itis” that they can pout and whine – and get away with it, while being paid 20 million a year.
As mentioned, I don’t have a clue what happened, nor do I, or will I care. I guess that I am writing about it seems to solidify that I think the united states is becoming more about entertaining ourselves and fighting to be king of the mountain, than actually going out and doing something.
Snip- wake up America. God gave us all a mind and talents use it. Stop watching this stuff and thinking it is normal, and staring into your mobile and clicking buttons.
Someone commented, but we are in the visual age, the experiential age. To that, I have to say, “no, we are in the age of pushing a few button and are too busy pushing that button to actually experience anything, having the powers that be, giving us more buttons to push – and we call that an experience. Not.
Regis – will you come out of retirement for a bit; give classes to the newer folks in the talking head business. Try to bring back some honesty in the process that is called media.
While I realize it takes some talent and skills to do the talking head job well, I also know there is a whole lot more important things in life we are ignoring with media, while we waste time spent as media trolls the average human being with what amounts to drama and a bunch of lies.
Why not take that time and use it to constructively try to help let the world see the truth, not bury it?
