Today was a bit Bittersweet, then i saw the Golden Vespa.
In designing an equipment list for what I would put in the ultimate brainstorm, product development and media school, I simply had too many flashbacks to my old space. While it is much more interesting to have someone say “think big” as I recommended 6 axis cnc machines instead of just four – I still had to remember starting out with 54 cents and working from there. At the time, desktop computers were pretty simple and you had to use your hands to craft and prototype most things
Today, you simply design it in a computer, push print, and in a bit of time 3d parts in are constructed and you put the actual pieces together. It really is pretty cool, particularly since when we got into 3d printing in the early 1990’s, a simple machine was a few million dollars.
Today, you can probably go to your home improvement store and pick up one up for a thousand dollars.
As I type, I get sick to my stomach at what the journey to use all this stuff cost me. I know the experience has helped me change as a human, but my god, I wish the pain of complete failure upon no one.
People ask, “Don’t you have enemies and hate people?”
“Not really, one day after I was pushing to become the super successful one, everything fell apart, when I crashed, I got to experience what hell is like for three nights. I do not wish that upon anyone. Not even my own worst enemy.”
Yes, another digress, that last thought had me think about the humor with all this list of sexy high-tech equipment and processes that I will send out - a veritable, “What do you want to build today. (literally) ” tool shop – I wrote, “pencils, sharpeners and paper.”
Despite looking and studying how to really work up ideas quickly, I still marvel at how much of the time it really all goes back to the simplicity of a pencil, paper and a decent imagination.
Here is a golden Vespa picture to start your day. I was walking up the hill to the library and had to stop and take a picture. It is not everyday you see a metallic gold Vespa, no?
