The morning brainstorm with a cup of coffee and my wife came over, opened up a small package she got from her CARE team meeting this weekend and held up a piece of chocolate.
I said, “thanks, but I really don’t want any.” My stomach was more interested in eating some sort of breakfast than a piece of chocolate.
“I wanted you to try it and see what you thought?” It was a request, but at the same time, the way she held it in her hand and the look in her eye was sort of like Marlon Brando in the godfather movie when he said, “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.”
So I nibbled a small piece of the corner and heard, “You need to eat more. I want to know what you think of this?”
When I heard those words, the light bulb went off in my head, as if god was hitting me in the head with a hammer, "Yo Mark, wake up, she really wants to know what you think about this chocolate!" Brain engaged, I went into taster mode and put the square of chocolate on my tongue, and waited.
I must confess, for plain chocolate this was one of the more wonderful pieces I had in my life. It was like eating mousse au chocolate that felt like you were eating air, yet, you had the deep rich chocolate flavor that in a lesser chocolate would seem to make your tongue feel like it had an anvil of heavy weight on it…. but not this. It floated along on my tongue, as if doing a dance.
While I don’t understand wine, I do understand great coffee and tea, and the experience of something great is the same. It has an introduction, middle, and a finish. This chocolate had all three and then dessert too.
thankfully my wife was in here taster mode to notice my face, “What do you think?”
“I have to say that was one of top pieces of chocolate I have had in my life.” (I also did the man thing and acted all cool and reserved so that she would not gloat too much, as my wife and I first met arguing in and ex-pat group about which country makes the best chocolate.
The company is called Felchlin. They make great chocolate. It even made my coffee taste better.
Now, I go into brainstorm mode fortified with a new brain food.
