There is a strange beauty about working with your hands in that at the end of the day, usually you can look at what you did and see progress. It is a refreshing thing when progress for most of the work I do might take years to get from the idea to the working product.
People ask, "Doesn’t that get frustrating or boring? Why do you set aside each and every day, first thing in the morning to brainstorm?"
The answers is that after thinking late night was most creative, I read some research papers that said, the waking moments are when your mind is most receptive to open brain thought. I tried it, and then enveloped the element of discipline to do this every day, as if a form of exercise or practice, and I must confess that the research papers were correct. the other issue is i simply really have a passion for creating new ideas and things. to me, the process is fun.
This doesn’t mean this is for everyone, as a few months ago there was a posting online of how creative spent his or her days. I studied it, looking for patterns, and the reality is there were no patterns. Each person had a very different life. The one consistent was there was a time pattern to each of their days.
The common rule is that the more times you fail to find an answer, it means you are one step closer to finding the key to opening the door with a solution. another issue is the environment you work in.
There was another time in the late 1990’s when I seemed to be more tired than normal. Granted, I was sleeping perhaps 2-4 hours a day, as the work was so fascinating and I was like a kid in candy store learning. My one friend said, “You are having more meetings aren’t you? That is the problem…. people will tire you and interfere with the work.”
I thought about what my friend said and realized I had gone back more into the world of what I called vehicular dodge ball to get to work and then sit around in meetings where people seemed to meet to decide when to meet again. I was granted a gift from feld entertainment and allowed to go work at my own pace/speed. There is nothing worse than being held back when you want to run on something.
Today, you have exciting times with the availability of technology and the collaborative tools of allowing many to work on the same project, problem, or idea. Man still hasn’t figured out a way to play nice and have a fair distribution of wealth for an idea. That is why there will always be secret labs, secret black operations and projects. The world and people simply don’t trust each other when it comes to money.
I am typing as yesterday another key unlocked another door in the augmaity technology projects. They are wonderful moments where you almost can see the problem and solution very clearly at the same moment. You have to decide if you want to walk down that path and try, as for whatever reason all the technologies I have worked with involve humans, emotions, and what is a very good/dangerous way to manipulate or help people.
I explained what I came up with to a trusted friend and was told, “I don’t think people really want to know. If you just listen you can tell the issues.”
I replied, “yes, but there is such a disconnect between the (sorry, I have to shut up here about what I am doing) of people. This could actually help.”
“Yes, it could do a lot of good, but do you think companies would use it that way?”
So this will be the work for the next few days. Taking the ideas out and seeing a book idea somehow knocked open the cobwebs for the reality of what is possible.
Interesting times indeed.
