I come from Cuba. My name is Idany.
My journey to get to Switzerland is the story of love. In Cuba, I worked as an industrial engineer with the Institute of Investigation of Sugar. It was an interesting job as we monitored the plants and crop for the output.
One day I was at a festival for dancing called the festival di sonne. I was dancing and a Swiss man noticed me. In English, I think he might have said, “wow!” The good news was he spoke perfect Spanish. So we took our time in getting to know each other. I would see him every 3-4 months as he would come to Cuba for business. After three years he asked me to marry.
Now my life in Switzerland is helping my husband and the farm. I think you call it more of a ranch, as we raise BIO cows not for milk, but for beef production. The cows get taken in and bred and we raise them for a while and then they are sold to clients. I have learned that the cow under two years of age has the best meat.
In a sense I am happy that my husband is a beef farmer, the dairy life doesn’t seem as much fun.
While I do miss the sunshine and warm tropical climate of Cuba, the love of my husband warms me in much the same way. As a woman, i was also happy to to find another benefit of the country …amazing CHOCOLATE!
