Sometimes all you have left is to laugh at yourself. Thankfully, this is a good thing in life.
I think it is a daily event that I find myself wondering if I am slowly going nuts with my entry into Switzerland and the attempt to learn the local language, culture and ways things get done. For an inventor, it is sort of like taking all the knowledge you have accumulated, sticking it in a blender, and then hitting the liquefy button.
It doesn’t make your knowledge flow easier. It just means your brains drip out of your ears really fast.
For example. Here is a video about the German language. It is a comedy piece, so please, no one get his or her panties in a wad. I am actually living through this process to learn the language.
The funny part is that I get a bit of a double dip in learning. Few Swiss people will speak in High German; rather you have a spoken dialect called Swiss German.
That simply means, I have twice as much of a chance as not having any clue what someone is talking about than if I just hear German.
It means I have doubled my chances to completely destroy speaking well for the foreseeable future.
I still try. I am not sure if it is that I am an optimist? Stupid? Or I have a really dry sense of humor and don’t realize it yet.
Don’t ask about the sheep bar, i was walking along, saw the sign above the door, asked myself, “do i really want to know?”
Yes, i just kept walking along trying to speak German, laughing at myself.
