Christmas day has come and gone. This morning I looked outside to see the first heavy snowfall upon the ground. All is covered in a layer of white, appearing to give the world a seeming cleanliness and new beginning.
Yesterday was a nice day of walking through an ancient medieval city and going from one house of family to another. It started at our place where I got to cook an American breakfast of sorts, that my wife enhanced with the traditional Swiss breads, rolls, meats and cheeses.
What did that mean?
It meant everyone had to eat like a pig, and there still was food left over.
Then we went to my mother in laws…for more food
Then, another brother in law…for more food
Finally, another brother in law…for dessert!
It was a unique day, much like I would have if was home in the usa – but we would not walk and goto everyone else’s home, it would be me cooking up a meal that usually my brother would get to pick, he loves meat and steaks, so usually it would be some great cut of meat, sauces and usually I would get scared that no one liked the food, until I realized that no sound meant they really enjoyed it while they ate.
Hopefully, my brother was able to surprise my folks, I had to bite my tongue for the past few weeks when he told me his plans were to drive up on Christmas morning and show up in church and poke my dad on the shoulder.
Now I go back to my position of sitting around listening to all talk in German. I still don’t’ understand, so I take my sketchbooks with me anymore. That algorithm idea I had a few weeks ago is turning into something really interesting.
While I am not really thrilled with the coming machine age and advanced artificial intelligence with respect to making better human beings, this age will soon be upon us. If we can use the technology and ideas for some well, that would be great. Such will be the world inside my mind, while I sit and listen and watch others communicate in a language I simply don’t grasp yet.
Such is the speed of normal life, versus the fast track life inside the lab. Some days I wonder if it is better to know there is a different way? Life itself is rather simple, but my goodness, man can really make more out of it than there actually is.
