Today was another installment of learning German. It is rather funny, as I really feel rather lost in the class, I hear the teacher ask, “does everyone understand?” the room nods their head, yet, I go “huh?”
Today I figured out that they probably are as lost as I am, I don’t think they understand. There is some sort of group element that goes all the way back to grade school that says, “yes, I understand enough to nod and let the teacher think I know.”
My problem is that because I really have no one to speak with in High German, I am better at reading and then when I hear the voice the two elements together have me understanding a good deal. When just hearing a voice, it seems too fast for me.
Yes, when I speak. My German simply sucks, and that is being polite.
Tonight I am here in an emergency room with my brother in law. Some lung issue. He knocked on the window holding his x-rays, “I have to go to the hospital.”
So my other brother in law is here. The irony is that mom just sent a Skype message about my brothers lungs and the good report the doctors gave him. The name is too long for me to remember, treatable with drugs and not the lymphoma that they tested for.
So all in all a good day.
Now, I will just get this post done, I have to say that the hospital waiting room here is rather jam-packed. I feel like one of those pigs or cows where they are force raised in a small pen. As I look out I see a palatial space for the employees, a nice coffee bar, ample workspace and a nice cheery environment.
I am sitting in a dungeon.
Maybe they have it this way as the walking wounded that come in are sent in here. So you have all sorts of people with a myriad of maladies all not looking, and I am sure not feeling too well, waiting to be called to see a doctor.
I have no clue how long I will be here. Just wait. See what is going on, and voila…either sleep here, we will be sent home. Either way is fine. I just spotted a power outlet hidden in the wall. There appears to be a strange wifi connection, and enough of a stream of sick people, young and old to come up with some interesting things.
I have a tiny table…. let me try to get the digital Xmas card done for this year. Yes, I did get some cards out, but when they told me 3.80 France to mail each card, I went, “you are kidding me? Almost five dollars to mail an envelope?”
Then again, it explains why the Swiss post is not bankrupt like the us postal service.
I still have no idea why the mail seems to get to the USA in a timely manner; yet, anything from the USA has come broken in pieces or weeks later. Too bad I could not put a camera in a package and mail it.
The life of a package...what really happens to all the boxes that get sent around the planet? The real story!
